This project aims to empower migrating saltpan and charcoal
women workers through organizing them in self-help groups
and making credit accessible for them. It covers
approximately 300 persons (schedule cast, tribe, widow,
orphan children) from 4 villages in Anjar Taluka & 5
villages of Bacchau Taluka. The areas are characterised by:
The economy is mainly based on production of salt,
agriculture and fishing.
Due to dry agriculture and less fertile land people from
poor communities are engaged in labour work.
Many people have migrated to these area to find work in the
salt pans.
The daily incomes of a salt pan worker is around 40 to 50 Rs
per day.
Most people have to go to Jogninar and Tuna about 2-3 km
from their homes to get to work.
